FAQ

1. Can Hikaru be used with other types of coffee dripper?

Yes, it can be used, but it is recommended to use the included Hario V60 02 dripper and 02 coffee server for the optimal brewing experience with Hikaru. When using different dripper with Hikaru, the shape of the dripper may result in different coffee flavors. However, with the flexibility to adjust and experiment with different drippers, you can customize the brewing according to your taste preferences. It's important to note that the current quick alignment system supports the "V60 02 dripper and 02 coffee server" that comes with the machine. If you choose to use your own dipper set, ensure proper alignment with the brewing head for the best brewing quality.

2. How should the water tank be cleaned?

You can manually activate the descaling mode or operate it through the Hikaru App. We recommend using the app to initiate the descaling mode, as it will guide you through the process step by step. To prevent scale buildup, it is advisable to use filtered water for brewing. For effective cleaning, please use citric acid descaling powder. The system defaults to prompting a descaling reminder every 200 brews, indicated by the illuminated cleaning indicator, prompting you to check if the water tank needs cleaning.

3. Can Hikaru be operated without using the App?

Yes, you can use Hikaru without opening the App. Hikaru comes with built-in preset S / M / L brewing recipes, allowing you to brew coffee without opening the App.

4. Does Hikaru have a scheduled auto-brew function?

Hikaru does not have a scheduled auto-brew function. This decision is made to ensure the best coffee quality and flavor. Prolonged exposure of coffee grounds to the air may affect their flavor and freshness.

5. Which parameters do I need to customize for the brewing recipe?

Creating a personal recipe through the app allows customization of water temperature, water volume per pour, and flow rate. This customization ensures that each cup is precisely tailored to your taste preferences.

6. What are the default water quantities for the S/M/L brewing settings in Hikaru, and what is the brewing ratio?

In the standard default settings, the water quantities for sizes S, M, and L are 290 ml, 440 ml, and 580 ml, equivalent to 1, 2, and 3 cup servings of coffee. The brewing ratio in the standard preset recipes is 1:16.

7. What is the flow rate range corresponding to the ten-speed settings of Hikaru?

The flow rate range for Hikaru is from 3 ml/s to 12 ml/s across its ten-speed settings.

8. Does Hikaru have a coffee warming function?

Hikaru does not have a warming function. For specialty coffee, appropriate cooling contributes to the release of coffee flavors.

9. Does Hikaru's showerhead pour water in a circular motion by rotating?

Hikaru primarily pours water through a five-hole showerhead in combination with a Variable Turbulence Extraction system, employing a central area water pouring method. Although this central area water pouring method differs slightly from traditional pour-over techniques, with the correct brewing recipe, Hikaru ensures a highly stable and consistent extraction. This commitment to consistency ensures precise replication of flavor in every cup of coffee.

10. Can the sound prompts and Atmospheric Indicator LED light of Hikaru be turned off?

The Atmospheric Indicator LED light effects cannot be turned off, but you can disable the sound prompts through the settings in the Hikaru Brew App.

12. Can hot water be poured into the water tank?

All materials in contact with water in the machine comply with Japanese food regulations, and you can directly pour hot water into the water tank. Please note that if the temperature of the hot water you pour in is higher than the brewing temperature set in the recipe, brewing will only commence once the temperature decreases to the set level.

13. Can the built-in scale measure the weight of coffee separately?

The built-in scale is primarily located beneath the water tank to precisely control the water volume, flow rate, and brewing time. The weight of coffee grounds and the coffee-to-water ratio are left to the user's discretion!

14. Is the logic of the boiling system to first boil and then cool down?

It will first heat up to the temperature specified in the recipe and then begin brewing. It is recommended to add filtered or pre-boiled and cooled water to the water tank before heating.
